GMAC Financial Services provides sponsorship, volunteers to help Dallas Habitat for Humanity

DALLAS (Sept. 12, 2008) – Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity is getting a boost from GMAC Financial Services.  GMAC will provide a partial sponsorship and volunteers to build a home in the Fair Park area.

On Sept. 13 and Oct. 11, GMAC volunteers will bring their helping hands to the build site, in addition to two “pre-framing” construction days at the Dallas Area Habitat office.

“We are thankful to GMAC for their ongoing commitment both locally and nationally to building affordable housing for deserving families,” said Norm Wilbur, Executive Director, Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity. “This month marks an exciting time in our organization’s history as we work with partners like GMAC to begin the revitalization of this historic neighborhood in Dallas’ Fair Park.”

The GMAC build is in Frazier Courtyard Homes in Fair Park. A distinctive feature of this site is that 13 of the 51 new homes in this area will be for “empty nesters.” These two-bedroom, one-bathroom homes will be sold to partner family households who no longer need extra bedrooms or large living spaces.

“We salute the important work of Habitat for Humanity in creating safe, decent and affordable housing,” said Javid Jaberi, senior vice president of Asset Performance of GMAC-Mortgage Servicing in Dallas. “GMAC employees and associates are active on behalf of Habitat because we believe in supporting the communities where we live and work, and we know that homeowners play a vital role in building safe, strong and healthy communities."

For more than 15 years, the financial and volunteer support offered by GMAC and its subsidiaries has helped Habitat build and rehabilitate hundreds of homes.

About the Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity
Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity (DAHfH) is a Christian ministry that builds quality, affordable homes in partnership with deserving families. Habitat’s homeownership program is an innovative model that offers low-income families the opportunity to own a home with affordable 0% interest loans. Homes are financed by generous donations from community supporters and largely built by the partner Habitat family with thousands of dedicated volunteers each year. Each homeowner commits 400 hours of “sweat equity” to the construct of their home. As the largest nonprofit homebuilder in the City of Dallas, Dallas Area Habitat has served over 650 low-income families with homeownership since 1986, investing $50 million in 20 neighborhoods of Dallas county to create new homes, new hope, and new communities.  For more information, visit www.dallas-habitat.org.
