The audit team’s volunteer work supports GMAC’s Community Relations efforts. GMAC has a strong commitment to supporting programs that promote affordable housing, financial literacy, education and community empowerment. Half of those in attendance at the audit conference will assist in recycling and redistributing, inspecting, sorting and packaging children's items such as toys, clothing, and books for C2C. C2C is a Boston organization that serves tens of thousands of children every year. The rest of the group will head to Herter Park, the largest section of open parkland in the Charles River Basin. They will work to increase bio diversity along the shoreline by hand cutting invasive plants, as well as picking up trash and debris along the riverbank and Publick Theatre moat. Other duties will include thinning trees by hand and planting, painting benches and other landscaping duties around the Caroline Herter memorial garden. “For the past two years, the GMAC audit team has volunteered their time for great causes like C2C, the Charles River Conservancy and other efforts,” said Mark Weintraub, general auditor for GMAC Financial Services. “This conference is the perfect opportunity for us to come together as a team and give back to the places that we work, live and operate.” At the 2007 audit meeting in Toronto, the global audit team donated 20 new bicycles to children participating in local Boys and Girls Club Programs. And, over the past year, GMAC Audit has sponsored many community efforts, working with local schools, fire safety awareness programs, the Humane Society and Make-A-Wish Foundation.
